From an idea to a composed line

Composition is the starting point of the workshop. Before choosing a phrase, consider what you want the print to mean: a memory of your trip, a few personal words or a message for somebody else. A short text leaves room to think about letter shapes and their arrangement. The workshop uses movable wooden and lead type, with craftspeople guiding the transition from an idea to a design. You need not arrive with a finished layout. A few possible phrases will give you something to discuss in relation to the materials and opportunities available during your session.

Ink, pressure and paper

Once the composition is ready, the activity moves on to inking and printing with a manual press. Veneziastampa identifies Fabriano Rosaspina as the paper used for its workshop. You can ask how ink is distributed, what pressure contributes and what to look for in the finished impression. Watching these stages offers a useful connection between preparation and the result on paper. You take your handmade prints away with you. Before leaving, ask how to protect them for the rest of your day and in your luggage, particularly if your travel plans involve several more changes of transport.

Planning your visit to the workshop

The meeting point for this particular experience is Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini, Santa Croce 2173, with arrival fifteen minutes early. Save both the name Veneziastampa and the full address: Venice’s district names are important when distinguishing building numbers. This is a private activity for your own group. Check the language, start time and conditions of the session you select before booking. If you are visiting with children, note that the listing advises against participation below six years of age. For mobility requirements, confirm both access to the workshop and the actual walking route from the waterbus, which includes a bridge.

Making space for a creative experience

Choose this workshop if you enjoy understanding how a printed object is made and want to give a practical activity a place in your holiday. When combining it with other visits, leave a clear gap before and afterwards. Waterbus travel and finding your way through the lanes deserve their own time in the schedule. Carry only what you need and wear clothes that feel comfortable for working at a bench. Afterwards, you can continue exploring Santa Croce independently. Keep your confirmation and check the conditions for your chosen date; the relevant programme and availability are those attached to your actual reservation.

Venezia

How to get there

From the train station

Venezia Santa Lucia

From the station, go to the Ferrovia waterbus stops and take ACTV route 1 towards Rialto–San Marco–Lido, getting off at San Stae. The provider describes the final walk via Salizada San Stae, then left into Campiello del Spezier. Pass the Muro San Stae restaurant, cross the bridge and continue to the right turn towards Corte Piossi. Walk past the church of Santa Maria Mater Domini and look for the workshop on your right at Santa Croce 2173. Check the current departure platform and timetable, allowing for the walk and the requested fifteen-minute early arrival. Arrange this journey separately from the workshop.

From the airport

Venice Marco Polo (VCE)

From Marco Polo Airport, take an ACTV or ATVO bus bound for Venice Piazzale Roma. Continue on ACTV waterbus route 1 towards Rialto–San Marco–Lido to San Stae, then follow the walking directions above to Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini and Santa Croce 2173. Choose the service for Venice rather than Mestre. Consult the operators for departures, tickets and service changes, allowing time for baggage, waiting and the transfer between bus and waterbus. These journeys should not be treated as a transfer included with your workshop booking.

Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.

Before you go

  • Keep your voucher and reach Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini, Santa Croce 2173, fifteen minutes early.
  • Bring a few short phrase ideas and check language, participant ages and any access requirements.
  • Check ACTV service updates and ask the workshop how best to carry your prints home.
