The coast from the water level
From the boat you can observe how the sea has shaped the rock, opening cavities and changing the profile of the coast. Approaching from below makes heights and shapes evident which can only be partially perceived from the top of the viewpoints. Navigation therefore offers a complement to urban walking: the same buildings and headlands take on new proportions, while the water line becomes the constant reference.
The entrance or approach to the individual caves depends on the sea, wind and the commander's assessment. Not all cavities are reachable in all conditions, and a shared boat must maintain an itinerary compatible with the group. Consider the variety of the coast as the center of the experience, leaving the choice of the most suitable points to observe up to the day.
A swim and a break on board
The swimming stop adds time in the water to your navigation, when conditions allow. Follow the directions to enter and re-board and advise if you prefer to stay on board. The aperitif offers a convivial break, but is not equivalent to a complete meal: you can plan lunch or dinner separately in the center of Polignano, without concentrating all your gastronomic expectations on the boat service.
Bring your swimsuit, towel and a space-saving soft bag. A waterproof case is useful for your phone, while easy-to-manage shoes make boarding easier. For children, movement needs or shade needs, first check the boat and the conditions of participation. Knowing how the spaces are organized helps you choose a departure that is suitable for the whole group.
San Vito is the point to set on the map
The meeting point is on the beach of San Vito, in front of La Veranda di Giselda, with the orange Boatx umbrella as the indicated reference. Don't look for boarding in Lama Monachile or in the historic center: arriving in the right municipality doesn't mean you're already at the pier. Save the location received and organize the transfer before the day of the boat trip, especially if you don't have a car.
Transportation to San Vito is separate from the experience. During busy periods, parking and the last stretch on foot also require space, so avoid showing up at the exact departure time. Upon returning you can continue towards the center to observe the coast from above, creating an interesting comparison with what you have just seen from the sea without having to add another organized activity.
Polignano a Mare
How to get there
From the train station
Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare station is located near the city center, but boarding is in San Vito. Book a taxi or check for a local connection that is actually compatible with the tour time; Don't take an included shuttle for granted. If you choose to walk, check the distance, continuity of the pavements and temperature before setting off: with a beach bag and strong sun the journey may be impractical.
From the airport
Bari Karol Wojtyła
From Bari Karol Wojtyła airport reach Bari Centrale with Ferrotramviaria and continue by train to Polignano a Mare. Then add the transfer to San Vito, which constitutes a third phase of the journey. A direct road service can simplify the combination, but it remains to be organized separately. Leave a wide gap between landing and boarding, taking into account luggage, connections and meeting on the beach.
Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.
Before you go
- The meeting point is in San Vito in front of La Veranda di Giselda: it does not coincide with Lama Monachile nor with the station.
- Caves and swimming depend on sea conditions; listen to the commander's instructions on the points that can be reached during the day.
- The aperitif is a break on board, not a complete lunch: bring water and organize the meal you prefer separately.
