Learning how colour meets wet plaster
The starting point is the relationship between pigment, water and the painting surface. Geko describes an introduction to fresco history, materials and the stages of making a piece. Practical work includes mixing pigments with water and applying them to plaster that is still wet. Working with these materials offers a useful way to appreciate why fresco calls for different decisions from drawing on paper or painting on canvas.
For a first attempt, discuss a clear, manageable subject with the instructor. A simple composition leaves room to consider outlines, areas of colour and the way the brush responds. Before adding small details, step back from the work and look at it as a whole. This is a practical opportunity to ask why a particular choice helps the image, rather than trying to finish the most complicated design possible.
A private lesson shaped around your experience
The listed class is reserved for your own group. The studio offers an introductory approach for beginners and further exploration for people who already paint. Explain what you have tried before and what you would like to understand. That conversation can help keep the proposed subject appropriate to your experience and the time available.
Viator gives an approximate duration of three hours, while the studio also describes introductory sessions lasting three to four hours. Confirm the timing of the option you book and avoid placing a tightly timed attraction immediately afterwards. Check the available teaching language when selecting the session. The purpose is a focused introduction, not a promise to master an entire technique in one afternoon.
Materials and the piece you take home
Materials and pigments are included, so buying a painting kit beforehand is unnecessary. The intended result is a small fresco of your own. Wear clothes suitable for working at a table and follow the instructions on handling tools and materials. Let the teacher guide the sequence rather than moving ahead when the condition of the plaster requires attention.
Before leaving, ask how to protect the piece and when it can safely be handled or packed. If shipping would suit your onward journey better, arrange it separately: Geko lists it as an optional extra, not an included service. Taking a photograph of your finished work can preserve your colour choices without repeatedly touching its surface to adjust a picture.

Firenze
How to get there
From the train station
Firenze Santa Maria Novella
From Firenze Santa Maria Novella, go to the Stazione Piazza Adua stop and take bus 23 towards Sorgane/Bagno a Ripoli. Get off at Salutati Gavinana and follow the voucher location for the final walk to Via Coluccio Salutati 3r. These stops appear on the official AT route. Roadworks introduced on 15 October 2026 affect the area, particularly services towards T2 Guidoni: check the return stop and direction separately, together with the day’s service notices.
From the airport
Firenze Amerigo Vespucci (FLR)
From Florence Peretola Airport, take tram T2 towards San Marco–Università to Alamanni–Stazione S.M.N. Continue to Stazione Piazza Adua for bus 23 towards Sorgane/Bagno a Ripoli, then alight at Salutati Gavinana for the studio address. Check GEST and AT for current service information. Allow separately for baggage collection, waiting and the interchange: the airport-to-centre journey time is not the total time needed to reach the workshop.
Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.
