Cycling between neighborhoods with different characters
In the historic center the route requires attention to people on foot, to turns and to stone surfaces. This is not a continuous ride at high speed: the pleasure lies in alternating movement and stops, adapting the pace to the life of the neighborhood. The guide helps you read places and connections, while the bicycle becomes a means to orient yourself and recognize the distances between the main points.
Following the group you can observe how the collected streets open up towards squares and larger spaces. If a section requires you to get off and accompany the bike, consider it a natural part of the route. An inhabited city is not a private track: maintaining distances and listening to directions allows you to enjoy the places better and coexist with the daily passage of residents and visitors.
The seafront and a stop for ice cream
The view over the sea changes the perception of the city: the space increases, the view broadens and the relationship between Bari and the Adriatic becomes more evident. During stops you can compare the urban front with the fabric of the center you have just crossed. Wind and sun affect comfort even on a city route, so water and suitable protection make the outdoor part more pleasant.
The ice cream break included in the option adds a taste without transforming the tour into a complete gastronomic journey. If you are interested in learning more about Bari cuisine, you can dedicate another moment to this. Here the thread remains the city seen by bicycle: places, distances and perspectives combine with the guide's story, leaving you with useful references to then return on foot to where you want to stop longer.
Prepare your bike before entering the centre
The meeting point is in Strada Vallisa 81, near the Piazza Mercantile area. It arrives with the time necessary to adjust the bicycle and the helmet, both foreseen in the option. Before setting off, check that the saddle and controls are comfortable and immediately report any difficulties: a small initial adjustment can improve the whole experience. This is not the ideal time to learn how to maintain balance from scratch.
For children or people who require a particular vehicle, ask for availability and conditions before booking. Don't take the presence of child seats, electric bicycles or specific sizes for granted. Wear shoes that stay firmly on your feet and choose a bag that doesn't hinder your riding. Visits to the interiors of monuments depend on the program: passing in front of a building does not automatically imply entering it.
Bari
How to get there
From the train station
Bari Centrale
From Bari Centrale you can reach Strada Vallisa on foot crossing the modern center towards the old city, or with a short urban transfer. You don't have to arrive with your own bicycle: the vehicle will be prepared at the meeting point. If you have luggage, place it in your accommodation or storage first, because cycling with suitcases is not compatible with the visit. Check number 81 to distinguish the meeting place from other activities in the area.
From the airport
Bari Karol Wojtyła
From Bari Karol Wojtyła airport the Ferrotramviaria services connect the airport with Bari. Continue from the Bari Centrale area towards Strada Vallisa, considering the final route in the centre. A direct taxi can stop at an accessible point nearby, but the restrictions of the old city may still require a short walk. Leave space between flight and departure to stow your luggage and adjust your transportation calmly.
Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.
