Start with paper and a simple idea
The workshop introduces Lecce’s papier-mâché tradition before the artisan demonstrates the process and guides your own practical work. Paper, glue and tools are listed among the materials provided. Watch how the texture and surface respond to each action; a question about one specific movement can be more useful than trying to understand every technique at once. Before deciding on a design, ask which projects suit the session. The listing does not promise a particular figurine, mask or decorative shape. Choose an achievable piece together with the instructor instead of expecting an exact object from a photograph.
A private session for your group
With a private format, the attention stays on your own group rather than on keeping pace with strangers. If you attend with a partner or friends, compare ideas while allowing everyone to work at their own speed. Tell the organiser how many people will participate and ask specifically about children or individual requirements. Italian and English are among the advertised languages; confirm the language for your booking beforehand. There is no need to arrive with an elaborate design. A little curiosity about the materials and a willingness to follow the demonstration make a useful starting point.
Taking your creation home
The organiser describes a personal handmade piece to take home. Ask how to protect it during the rest of your journey, whether it needs drying time and how it should be packed. Do not assume every surface will immediately be ready for paint or a closed suitcase: the answer depends on the work you agree to make. If you want photographs of the process, ask permission and choose moments that do not interrupt the explanation. A modest, well-considered piece can preserve the memory of the activity without requiring an ambitious project that exceeds the available time.
Make room for the workshop in your day
Choose a session with breathing space before train departures, appointments or timed entry tickets. This is a craft activity; any city walks, church admissions or meals should be arranged separately. Wear comfortable clothes and tell the organiser about relevant sensitivities to materials. If you need an accessible route or a seated working position, describe your requirements before booking so the actual setup can be checked. Confirm availability and the cancellation terms attached to your selected option. Giving the workshop its own space in the day makes it easier to concentrate on the work and ask questions without watching the clock throughout.
Lecce
How to get there
From the train station
Lecce FS
From Lecce railway station, you can walk towards the historic centre and the Santa Croce area, setting your destination to Infotab, Via Umberto I 18. Follow current pedestrian directions all the way to the street number: the basilica is a useful landmark, not the workshop meeting point. With luggage or mobility requirements, consider a taxi and agree on a permitted drop-off close to the address. For any local bus connection, consult the official SGM app for current stops and diversions. Avoid relying on an old itinerary using the Castello stop, which changed in 2026. Reaching the railway station is only the first part of reaching the workshop.
From the airport
Brindisi Salento (BDS)
At Brindisi Salento Airport, check SITA Sud route 793 to Lecce, arriving at the City Terminal in Piazzale Carmelo Bene. Continue to Via Umberto I 18 on foot using current directions or by taxi; the City Terminal and Lecce railway station are different places. Alternatively, Brindisi Air&Port link connects the airport with Brindisi railway station. Continue by train to Lecce and use the station directions above. Compare services for your actual travel date and allow time for baggage collection and connections. Transport is arranged and paid for separately from the workshop, so leave a comfortable margin before the booked starting time.
Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.
Before you go
- Confirm the session language, group details and availability before choosing a time.
- Ask which designs are practical and how to pack your creation safely for the journey.
- Save Via Umberto I 18 and your voucher, allowing time for the final walk through the centre.
