Approach the barrel rooms with curiosity

The ageing rooms provide a setting for the guide's explanations. Standing beside the barrels, you can ask about the role of the containers, the stages being described and how to read the information on the products presented. You do not have to turn the visit into a technical examination. Everyday cooking questions can be a useful starting point for understanding what you see. Access concerns the areas included in the itinerary; it should not be taken as a promise that every production task will be happening live during every appointment.

Make the tasting a comparison

Careful tasting brings attention to impressions that might be overlooked at the dinner table. Notice colour, take time over the aroma and compare the samples as the guide introduces them. The listing includes balsamic tastings but does not specify a complete meal or a fixed tasting menu to guarantee. Ask which products are planned for your particular session if that matters to your choice. Additional food and drink, along with purchases in the shop, are separate. This is a visit with tasting, so keep your lunch plans distinct rather than assuming a meal will be provided.

Find the correct Modena address

The visit takes place at Rua del Muro 86, also written as Via Rua Muro on the acetaia's website. Do not confuse this with the company's registered address in Montale: those are different locations. Go to the indicated entrance and, if needed, wait for the guide to open the access beneath the arch. The activity ends at the same place. Keep your voucher and contact details available on your phone so you can report a delay without searching for another entrance or wandering into areas not intended for visitors.

Leave room for the rest of the city

The central setting makes it easy to plan other walks around Modena before or afterwards. Museum and monument visits have separate opening times and admission arrangements; they are not part of this experience. Tours operate by appointment, so check a real available session instead of arriving with an expectation of immediate entry. If you have mobility requirements, request confirmation of the exact booked route. Accessibility descriptions on the acetaia website and Viator differ. A direct explanation of steps, ramps and assistance is more useful than relying on a broad assumption when planning your trip.

Modena

How to get there

From the train station

Modena — Piazza Dante Alighieri

Modena railway station stands in Piazza Dante Alighieri on the Milan–Bologna line. Walk towards the historic centre using the city map and continue to Rua del Muro 86. Enter the complete visitor address rather than the registered office in Montale. If you prefer a taxi, official tourism information places the rank on the right side of the square as you leave the station; give the driver the same visit address.

From the airport

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi (BLQ)

Aerbus connects Bologna airport with Modena. Check its current timetable and suitable stop, then complete the journey to Rua del Muro 86 on foot or by taxi. Alternatively, take Marconi Express to Bologna Centrale, continue by train to Modena and follow the station directions. These journeys are independently arranged and are not included in the visit. Allow enough time for luggage collection and connections before choosing your appointment.

Always check the meeting point on your voucher: it may vary by the option booked. Check timetables and connections again before travelling.

Before you go

  • Reserve an appointment and confirm the guiding language before travelling.
  • Discuss allergies or dietary requirements and ask which tastings are suitable.
  • Check the current option on Viator; shop purchases remain entirely optional.
